Tunnel to Towers North Idaho
The North Idaho 5K of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which gives homes to the families of fallen first responders and to injured veterans.

What they do
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is named for Stephen Siller, a New York firefighter who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, and gave his life there. It gives mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children, and builds smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. Here, it paid off the mortgages of the two fire chiefs killed in the Canfield Mountain ambush, and built a smart home in Rathdrum for a Marine Corps veteran. Its North Idaho 5K, run by local volunteers along the lake in Coeur d’Alene every September, had its sixth year in 2026.
